About the Waiting List:
Waiting lists (for both
kindergarten and preschool programs) are specific for each
year; when you request that your child be placed on a
waiting list, you must state the specific school year(s) on
which you wish to place your child. Being on a waiting list
does not mean that you are enrolled … it just means that you
are waiting to be called when it is registration time for
that school year. Being on a waiting list does not
necessarily mean there will be a spot for everyone on the
list; the earlier you put your child on the list for their
school year the better. We recommend parents put their
child on the Waiting List shortly after they are born and
named (children cannot be on the list before this!).
We start
registration the beginning of January with the families
currently enrolled in the Center. Then someone from the ELC will contact everyone on
the Waiting List the end of January
(this would be for the school year that begins that Fall).
When they call, they will know what (if anything) is
available.

If something IS
available that suits you, you will choose a date for a
Large Group Tour. Parent Tours are an hour and a half of very
detailed information about the program. Parents will be
with a group of other parents that are also looking at
the same session for their children, so you will hear the
questions of those parents as well as ask questions of your
own as the tour progresses. The Parent Tour includes a tour
of the school facility; the Director will take you into the
classrooms and explain the learning centers, the purpose of
the centers and how the children function in the classroom,
the resource rooms and resources, the gym, playground, etc.
Parent Tours are for parents only – it is adult information
upon which parents will base their decision regarding school
for their children. After the Tour, parents will have 2
weeks to read through and ‘digest’ the information they have
received. During that 2 week period, parents are welcome to
drop in (un-announced) and observe classes that are in
session (you will receive a security pass at your tour which
you must wear). At the end of the 2 week period you must
choose to enroll or not. If you choose to enroll, you will
fill out and return enrollment paperwork with the supply
fee, which will finalize your child’s enrollment.

If no spot is
available, or the spot that’s available doesn’t suit you,
you may ask to remain on the Waiting List. The Waiting List
remains current through the school year; if children move,
someone can be called from the list as late as March or
April into the actual school year. Note: children are not
moved from one year’s list to another if they do not get
into the program from a Waiting List.
If you wish to receive additional information, you may call
the ELC Office at (515) 225-1952 ext. 14 and speak with our
ELC Director, Diane Hensley. To have your child placed on a
Waiting List, we will need the following information:
